Wave Connections Cic- Our Story
Investing in Relationships. Empowering Communities. Healing Through Connection.
Wave Connections CIC is a not-for-profit organisation committed to improving the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children, families, and communities across Dorset and surrounding areas. This is achieved in a program of social activities throughout the year, training wider services who may support young people affected by neurodiversity and developmental trauma and in offering therapeutic services. Wave Connections Cic Consists of 5 experienced, Counsellors, Attachment based practitioners. Founded in 2017 and incorporated as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2022, our work is grounded in a deep understanding of trauma, attachment, neurodiversity, and the healing power of safe, consistent relationships.
Our founder, Carly Barrett-Greening, brings over three decades of experience in social work, psychology, and psychotherapy. Her career has spanned welfare services, children’s yoga therapy, and integrative counselling. Carly’s research and professional experience revealed a critical gap in services — particularly the absence of direct, relational work with children. Wave Connections Cic was established in 2017 to fill that gap.
Why Our Work Matters
Children and families affected by developmental trauma, social disadvantage, or neurodiversity often face long waits, inconsistent support, or services that don’t fully meet their needs. In rural areas like Dorset, access is even more limited.
Wave Connections exists to change that.
We provide holistic, trauma-informed services that are relational, inclusive, and community-based. Our support reaches beyond individual therapy — we create safe spaces where children can build resilience, parents can feel supported, and communities can grow stronger together.
Our Core Offerings
-
Therapeutic Support
Relationship-based interventions grounded in attachment theory and neuroscience, including Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Theraplay-informed work, and Children’s Yoga Therapy. -
Accredited Training
We deliver CPD-accredited programs to schools, carers, and professionals on attachment, trauma, emotional regulation, and neurodiversity — building capacity within the systems that support children. -
Community Events & Social Opportunities
From nature walks and BBQs to climbing clubs, karate, and summer camps, we offer inclusive, low-cost opportunities for children to build social confidence in safe, nurturing environments. -
Parent & Carer Support
Through workshops, support groups, and regular events like ‘Yarn in the Yurt’, we create spaces for shared understanding, reducing isolation and building stronger networks around children.
Our Impact
Since our inception, we have:
-
Supported over 300 families across Dorset through therapeutic services
-
Delivered training to schools and professionals to improve trauma-informed practice
-
Hosted seasonal events that reduce social anxiety and promote healthy peer relationships
-
Developed trusted partnerships with local authorities, schools, and voluntary organisations
-
Created accessible, culturally sensitive services rooted in local community needs
We measure our success not just through outcomes, but through stories — children re-engaging with learning, parents feeling heard for the first time, and young people taking part in their first ever group activity returning to camp year after year.
